Palestinian militant groups are denying they've reached a cease-fire agreement with Israel and say Wednesday's Israeli strikes make it less likely. Hamas officials say their organization along with the Islamic Jihad and Fatah are discussing the cease-fire with Palestinian officials but have not yet reached an agreement. Hamas says the latest Israeli attacks which killed four Palestinians do not help the situation and its military wing has vowed revenge.

Addressing reports earlier Wednesday that a cease-fire had been reached, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer reacted this way:"Well, certainly anything that reduces the level of violence or eliminates violence in the Middle East is encouraging but make no mistake that what is important here is the dismantlement of terrorism and terrorist organizations. That is, at the end of the day, the purpose on the objective of the Israelis and the Palestinians working together to dismantle terror." |
