However, just after the foundation of piling was completed, the owner of the neighboring building, Victor Sassoon, peremptorily interfered and opposed the building to exceed the height of pyramid spire of his building. Swanking as one of the highest tax payers in the International Concession, Sassoon compelled the authority not to issue the construction license for setting up a 34 storeys high building. Thus, the blueprint could not be fully realized and the bank building was forced to be 17 storeys high, which is 30 centimeters lower than Sassoon Building.谁知刚完成地基部分，却遭到隔壁沙逊大厦的主人维克多·沙逊蛮横的干涉和反对，他无理要求中国银行大厦不得超过沙逊大楼的金字塔尖顶。沙逊仗着自己是公租界当局据发34层建筑执照，无奈将楼层降至17层，比沙逊大楼低了0.3米。
