The painting at last re-emerged into the light of the Florentine day at a very fortuitous moment in the mid-19th century, when a group of restless young British artists were looking for inspiration. The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was established at London's Royal Academy in 1848. This loose grouping of radical young artists went on to include characters as different as William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. What they had in common was an urge to ransack the past, in search of a new way to express their modern concerns.
They were basically fed up with the way they were being taught. They wanted to disregard a lot of what had been going on in the High Renaissance, they weren't interested in copying Raphael, when they were looking for alternatives to the examples that they were being offered by the Academy they started to look backwards in art history they started to look to artists like Botticelli.
