Hint:

        Murakami
Kobe

        sarin

        以音频内容为准
        英式拼写
In the early morning of January 17th, 1995, Murakami's home city of Kobe was laid waste by a massive earthquake that killed over 5,000 people. Three months later, the Tokyo subway was attacked by members of a religious cult. Terrorists travelling on several different lines punctured concealed bags of liquid sarin, releasing a poisonous gas that killed 12 and injured over 6,000 commuters. The combination of these tragedies brought the whole nation to a state of crisis.
Those two things are connected in my mind, or in anybody's mind. Before 1995, we felt kind of secure living in this country, peaceful, and safe, and prosperous. But after that, those things collapsed all of a sudden. So, 1995, I was 46 years old, and I felt some kind of responsibility as a writer. Before that, I was a simply egoistic person and I thought, OK, I write for myself and that's all I want to do, all I have to do. But after that, I felt the responsibility as a Japanese author. I was living in the States then, and I felt myself as a kind of international figure. But after the earthquake and the sarin gas attack, I just wanted to do something for my people, you know. I fear for the people in Japan.
