This was his first winter in Alaska. He was wearing heavy clothes and fur boots. But he still felt cold and uncomfortable.
The man was on his way to a camp near Henderson Creek. His friends were already there. He expected to reach Henderson Creek by six o'clock that evening. It would be dark by then. His friends would have a fire and hot food ready for him.
A dog walked behind the man. It was a big gray animal, half dog and half wolf. The dog did not like the extreme cold. It knew the weather was too cold to travel.
The man continued to walk down the trail. He came to a frozen stream called Indian Creek. He began to walk on the snow-covered ice. It was a trail that would lead him straight to Henderson Creek and his friends在一个寒冷阴沉的冬日里，有个男人行走在小路上，在他极目所视的地方都覆盖着纯白的冰雪。这是他在阿拉斯加度过的第一个冬天。虽然穿着厚厚的衣服和毛皮靴子，可是他仍旧觉得干冷难耐。

一只狗一直跟在这个男人身后。那是一只很大的灰色狼狗。它看上去似乎也不喜欢这么冷的天气。这种日子实在是不适合旅行的。
男人继续走在小路上。很快就到达了被称作印第安河的地方。他走在冰面上，那是一条能够让他直达汉德森湾和朋友们见面的捷径。
