Analysts say it could have been worse, considering all the negative earnings news from corporate America. But the stock market has been languishing for a while. Investors, worried by the uncertain economy, are showing very little conviction in what they buy. The U.S. central bank has carved out a rescue package since the beginning of the year, padding it with five interest rate cuts so far. Wall Street is looking for at least one more cut. But market analysts point out that only signs of sustained corporate earnings growth will finally shake the stock market out of its doldrums.
