The England manager Roy Hodgson has made it clear that Rio Ferdinand still has an international future despite his withdrawal from the World Cup qualifiers with San Marino and Montenegro. The Manchester United defender travelled to London to explain personally to Hodgson why he couldn't accept to return to the England squad. As the BBC's Ian Dennis reports.
"It was during that face-to-face discussion where he explained his specific medical programme which according to Hodgson the details are already in place and because he must follow them, it's not possible for him to travel. I'm told it was a positive meeting between the pair, and Rio Ferdinand wants to be considered for squads in the future. But it's the second defensive blow in less than 24 hours for Roy Hodgson after Michael Dawson's withdrawal yesterday.
