答疑:lsy34Europe's financial storms have been picking up again after a spell of calmer weather just as one of its largest economies France is about to hold the first round of presidential elections. The current President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Socialist rival François Hollande are in the final stretch of campaigning. And economic troubles have shaped much of Mr Sarkozy's fast last five years in power. At first he had plans for reforms meant to make France into a more flexible and business-friendly economy, but the global financial crisis and then the eurozone sovereign debt crisis got in the way. Plus mighty France was humbled by losing the AAA credit rating for its government bonds. Where does this leave Mr Sarkozy, who's been described variously as France's most hated president and its boldest? Reporting from Paris, here's the BBC's Emma Jane Kirby.
Nicolas Sarkozy may remember that day in May five years ago when he was elected president of the French Republic. There's a sense that the rest of France can't quite forget it. He's had the worst popularity ratings of any head of state in French history, and yet he continues to attract more media attention and fascination than any of his predecessors.
