答疑:liuczhiNow for decades, the market for photographic film was dominated by Kodak. But with more and more of us using digital cameras instead, the market for film has collapsed and soon Kodak with it perhaps. The American firm has filed for bankruptcy protection to give it time to reorganise itself. But for years it's been trying and failing to adapt to a new way of taking pictures. Kodak's shares have now been suspended for the duration of its bankruptcy protection after massive ups and mostly downs in recent weeks.
Let's hear about the rest of the stock market news from Peter Jankovskis. He's director of research at OakBrook Investments in Chicago.
"Intel, Microsoft and IBM all posted better than expected earnings and all of them are trading up anywhere from 1% to 3% after hours now. Google was the major disappointment. They have been forecast to earn $10.50 per share, and they only delivered earnings of $9.50. So they're off quite substantially. They were down about 9%. And they have been down actually more than 10% at one point after hours."
"You know, what were investors expecting then different from what they saw?"
"Well, I think the story across the board was disappointing revenue. It just turned out that Google's was a little bit more of a disappointment than the other companies. They have a little more exposure to Europe apparently. The others were able to compensate with some cost-savings."
