The La Liga leading powerhouse, playing host to Italy's AC Milan for leg two of their round of 16 tie. Milan took game one at home 2-nil, so Barca would have to step up in a big way on their home turf.
Barcelona came into this one, reeling a bit after consecutive losses to Real Madrid and that loss at the hands of Milan in leg one over the last three weeks. However, any rumours of the demise of mighty Barcelona...were certainly, greatly exaggerated.
And it would be Lionel Messi who would lead the way. Five minutes in, he opened the scoring. His powerful shot, finding the top corner left Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati completely helpless.
And five minutes before the break, another moment of brilliance. From the edge of the area, Messi created space for himself and his wonder-strike - levelled the score on aggregate 2-2.
And by the 55th minute, it was as if leg one never happened. As David Villa, would bring Barcelona back into the lead...from the right side of the area he make no mistake. A great finish making it 3-nil, giving Barca the 3-2 aggregate lead in the tie.
And in injury time, Jordi Alba would seal the deal for his side. 4-nil the final for Barca at home in leg two, 4-2 the final on aggregate...and they are moving on to the round of eight. The amazing comeback, the first time in Champions League history a club had overturned a 2-goal deficit from a leg one loss on the road. |
