The United States combat ship, the USS Freedom, is expected to arrive in Singapore in mid-April for an inaugural ten-month deployment. The U.S. Navy says the ship will depart from San Diego in the US on Friday.
The 115-foot-long USS Freedom is the first in its class, and was commissioned in 2008. It has a crew of 91 people, which includes an aviation detachment to operate a helicopter. The ship can operate in shallow water and requires a relatively small crew to operate.
Singapore’s Ministry of Defense says the sailors will all remain living on board the USS Freedom during its deployment in Singapore. |
