I made London into an island for a number of reasons. Britain is an island. It's a collection of islands. It informs our national psyche. It's a wry joke on, on London's self-importance. The Isle of Woking, dormitory island town. It's an image of, of both order and chaos, and, at times, an image of where the order descends into chaos, making it, I was trying to say how bewildering it can be, sometimes, to live in the place.
