Next to Formula 1 where pre-season testing starts shortly in Jerez in Spain. Lewis Hamilton who's joined Mercedes from McLaren seems to have written off his chances of success in this year's championship and is already looking to 2014 and beyond. He says Mercedes are not yet ready to challenge the top teams from 2012.
"I think the same guys that I have competed last year will be, you know, Jenson's, gonna have an easier time now. And Sebastian will have another amazing car this year 'cause it's gotta be an evolution of last year's car. So I wouldn't be surprised if he has another shot winning the fourth world title. But everything does change in 2014. So for us this year, we will just have to do what we can with what we have and what's important is that we just keep moving forward."
The BBC's Formula 1 correspondent James Allen says Hamilton may be underplaying his hand. He says it's a case of trying to manage expectations.
"They always put it to underperform and over-deliver is a real mantra in Formula 1, particularly when you make a step like this, a lot of people saying, 'Oh, he's just going for the money' and what have you. But Mercedes have got a terrific-looking car actually. They revolved it quite a bit and just analysing it just from the pictures we've seen today. It's certainly looks like a good step forward. I wouldn't write off their chances.
