But while we want to get our hands on the next gadget just as much as men, we are much less willing to get involved in creating it. At least, that's according to a campaign that started up in the UK, which wants to encourage more women into what it says is a well-paid creative and worthwhile profession. The UK technology entrepreneur Belinda Parmar is chief executive of the consultancy firm Lady Geek. And she is spearheading its campaign on Little Miss Geek. I asked her, what she thinks is putting women off taking up this profession.
"That image of the pizza-guzzling, guy who can't get a girlfriend is outdated and not representative of technology now. The image problem for girls is something we need to crack. We must show girls that there are a wide variety of roles in technology and to be geeky is cool. Technology is one of the best-paying careers and it's also one of the most creative careers.
