The defeat in the third round of this year's group stage is Chelsea's first in the competition under manager Roberto Di Matteo who guided them to the title last season. "Chelsea were beaten by the better side here, a bang-in-form Shakhtar Donetsk had their already soaring confidence boosted by an early goal. In the third minute, Luiz Adriano evaded Luiz, his shot hit John Terry and fell into the path of Alex Teixeira to score from an angle. Chelsea lost Lampard to a hamstring injury, Shakhtar got better as the half went on. And after the break, substitute Hazard lost possession, and Fernandinho rounded off a lightening break by shooting in their second. Oscar grabbed a goal back for Chelsea in the 88th minute, but they're gonna have few complaints about the final outcome."
Roberto Di Matteo took over as Chelsea manager during last season's knockout stage.
