The British and French police have been searching for the pair. And parents of both the girl, Megan Stammers, and the teacher, Jeremy Forrest, have made television appeals for them to come forward. Now they've been found in Bordeaux in southwestern France. Mr Forrest has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and Megan has been taken into protective custody. Andrew Peach asked our British affairs reporter Rob Broomby for more details.
"Well, we don't know the precise details at the moment. What we do know is that about 12:15 UK time, the couple was spotted in a French city and picked up. He was arrested and, as they say, she was taken into care. It's believed that city was Bordeaux. I think that's fairly reliable information by now, but the police themselves haven't confirmed it. Of course, we've seen, as you say, over the last week or so, some fairly emotional appeals both from her parents, perhaps even more surprising, from his parents, who described their son as caring but vulnerable, the implication being, of course, that he clearly has badly misjudged this one. It would appear that she has gone with him willingly from what we know at the moment, but clearly as a teacher, he had a duty of care.
