Four months in office and the popularity ratings for the new French President François Hollande are evaporating quicker than summer rain in the Champs-Élysées. With France in the doldrums up to its neck in debt, its economy at a standstill and 3 million of its citizens out of work, Mr Hollande was voted into his new job in a hope he'd create jobs for others. It hasn't happened though. Instead the president was accused of dithering of not taking a grip. So he went on national television to tell France what he intends to do.
"My mission is to turn France around and I'm going to set a timetable to turn it around, two years, two years, at the same time, two years to put into place policies to deal with unemployment, competitiveness and turn around our public accounts."
Well it's a tall order in anyone's book - can he deliver? The BBC's Hughes Garfield is in Paris and he's been finding out what voters make of it.
Across France there's a growing recognition that the economy is in a desperate plight and something urgent has to be done. But on what that something is of course opinions differ. Here in a business district of Paris, not far from the Élysée Palace in fact, I'd say the mood is pretty sceptical about what President Hollande outlined last night. It's the knee-jerk put-up-taxes kind of solution that a lot of people here find pretty unconvincing.这可谈不上什么蜜月期。新任法国总统弗朗索瓦·奥朗德任职4个月以来，支持率很快如香榭丽舍大街的夏雨般蒸发流失了。负债问题令法国感到如芒刺在背，经济萧条并陷于停滞阶段，三百万市民失业；而当初大家选举奥朗德先生当总统，就是希望他能创造更多的就业机会。但结果却不尽如人意。反之，总统先生因为犹豫不决，不能力挽狂澜地做决策而备受指责。因此近日他在国家电视上发表讲话，告诉法国人民他的下一步计划。
“我的使命是让法国经济得到复苏，为此将设置为期两年的时间表，两年，同时，用这两年的时间来处理高失业率、持续下滑的竞争力和财政赤字 。”
这个要求对任何人来说都是苛刻的---他能解决吗？BBC记者休斯·加菲尔德先生在巴黎了解到一些选民们对此番话的态度。
现在，法国人民普遍认为经济处于危急的困境中，需要实施急救措施来应对。但到底该采取怎样的紧急措施，人们肯定会有不同的意见。在离爱丽舍宫不远的一个巴黎商业区，我觉得现在民众对总统奥朗德的经济复苏时间表充满怀疑。政府企图通过提高税收来解决问题，而这个下意识的反应，并不让大多数人感到信服。
