Now Prince William of course has spent his life in the public eye, whereas Kate went from relative obscurity to global prominence. Though she smiles a lot, but says little in public, Time Magazine has already included her and indeed her sister Pippa on its list of "The World's 100 Most Influential People". There's no doubt that Kate influences what some women wear, but is she also a role model in other ways? Charlotte Ashton reports.
A year after 2 billion viewers around the globe tuned in to watch Kate Middleton marry her prince, and "Kate fever" shows no sign of abating.
Last month, hundreds gathered outside Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London when she paid an official visit.
"We got there just in time, just as we arrived. The cars came down the road, you know, from down here."
"But after she'd entered, we moved to a different position to try and get a better view…"
Local 14-year-olds Isabella Alice and Ruby were among the crowds and they told me why they love the new princess.
"She's sort of come from a normal background and you can really, easily relate her because she wasn't originally a Royal, she's just, sort of a normal girl."
"Her style, and her personality because she's really kind, she's quite like reserved, she's not to in your face."
"Do you think that's a good quality for a woman to have to be reserved?"
"Yeah, I think so because unlike other celebrities at the moment, she's a lot more classy and less in your face. She like married a prince and now she's a princess. From since you're a baby, that's what girls are like in Disney movies - everything's about becoming a princess. 当地的几个14岁的姑娘，伊莎贝尔、爱丽丝和露比当时就在人群中。她们向我解释为何喜欢新王妃。
“从某种意义上来说，她来自草根家庭，给人一种亲切感，因为她并不是出生皇家，她就是个普通女孩。”
“她的风格，个性都惹人喜爱。因为她很友善，也很含蓄，没有咄咄逼人的感觉。”
