电影来袭:叛将寇流兰

The play adapted by John Logan is brought into the present and set in a Balkan location, actually Belgrade. Coriolanus has to contend not just with the Volscians, but the whole media circus that surrounds war and politics. It's a treatment that makes sense on screen, but all the same, Coriolanus as a play is a challenge. Until now, there's been no film. So why did Ralph Fiennes feel it was suitable for his first venture as director?
"I suppose Shakespeare's tragic protagonists - Hamlet, Macbeth, Othello - have a degree of awareness. Their language allows us to hear them, examine themselves to some degree. But Coriolanus has virtually nothing of that. He doesn't allow us in at all, really. And I like it for that reason. I mean he's an extremely austere, confrontational, rigid figure. And the play itself is quite confrontational, and it doesn't have, for want of a better word, lyricism or romanticism or anything you might call a love interest. And there's a war going on as well. The language of the play is dense, knotty, complex. “我认为莎士比亚的悲剧主角,哈姆雷特,麦克白,奥赛罗,都有一定的思想意识。他们的语言能让我们去聆听他们,感受他们的思想意识。但是克里奥兰纳斯几乎都没有这些。他不允许我们去聆听他的话、他的思想,真的。我喜欢他就是这个原因。我的意思是他是一个非常严肃、具有对抗性、严苛的一个人。而且这部电影本身也具有非常强的对抗性,它没有什么抒情、浪漫的色彩或者是一些所谓的爱情趣味,我暂时还没想出更好的词去形容它。而且这时还有战争正在发生。这部电影的语言是难理解的、粗俗的、复杂的。所以这就是我认为这会是一部不太容易被接受的电影的原因。”
