The financial crisis has led to a great upsurge of protest around the world. Movements are springing up to campaign against the authors of the financial crisis to look at new forms of capitalism and how to manage greed in the West. And they're also experimenting with protest itself, exploring new ways to bring about the changes they want to see in the world. One theme is positive campaigning. Instead of opposing the things they don't like, they're looking at ways to support and encourage the things they do. A key test bed for these new ideas has been in the food industry. The BBC's Dan Saladino looks at how some grassroots activists are coming up with new ideas to persuade businesses to operate in more environmentally friendly and transparent ways.
On our television screens in recent months, whether because of the economic crisis, record youth unemployment, or the rise of social networks, we've witnessed a shift taking place in how people think, engage and organise themselves around the big issues of the day. Think of the likes of the UK's Uncut movement, or in the US, Occupy Wall Street.
"It takes this out of a Woodstock Nation type of thing and puts it to a working class type thing. But this is not like a pop culture riot. This is real."
