cruel 一般性用词，指行动或态度的残忍。
inhuman 着重指缺乏同情心、仁爱等人类特有的良好品质。
savage 指缺乏文明人应有的教养，尤指在动怒或冲动时表现出的粗野蛮横，含野蛮意味。
fierce 指天性凶恶，令人害怕。

表示警告、忠告的词还有advise，warn，counsel等，它们之间有如下差别：

caution 主要针对潜在危险提出警告，含有小心从事的意味。
advise 普通用词，泛指劝告，不涉及对方是否听从劝告。
warn 警告，含义与caution相同，但语气较重，尤指严重后果。
counsel 正式用词，语气比advise强一些，侧重指对重要问题提出的劝告、建议或咨询。
