A Lomita man who built a massive collection of dresses over 56 years is putting the 55,000 frocks up for sale.来自美国加州洛米塔的老人在56年间为妻子共买了5万5千条裙子，他现在正把这么多的收集品出售。
Paul Brockmann began collecting dresses after he first laid eyes on his wife, Margot, dancing in a ballroom in Germany. Brockmann said he knew then he never wanted her to wear the same dress twice.保罗·布罗克曼和妻子玛格特相识于德国，第一次见面是在一场舞会上，之后保罗便开始收集各种裙子。他说他知道那时起，他便想让玛格特每次都穿不一样的裙子。
“I spent every dime that I had, that I could buy a dress with, I did,” said Brockmann.布罗克曼说：“我花尽每一分钱去买裙子。”
Still, the dresses are Paul’s passion. According to his wife, there are a lot of dresses in the collection that she has never worn.不过买这些裙子都是保罗的热情。他的妻子称这些收集品中她有许多裙子从未穿过。
“The collection is just like if you’re a stamp collector or a car collector,” Brockmann said.布罗克曼说：“收集这些与你是一位集邮者或集车者是同一个道理。”
The collection was kept secret for years, out of Mr. Brockmann’s concern that it would raise questions.这些收集品多年来一直都被保密，布罗克曼从来没有想到过这会引起什么问题。
“If anybody would find out that I was collecting the dresses, they’d maybe think ‘what kinda guy is this?’” said Brockmann. It wasn’t until his daughter found the dresses in his garage that he told her about the collection he had built.布罗克曼说：“如果任何人发现我正在收集这些裙子，他们一定会想‘这个人怎么了’。”直到布罗克曼的女儿在他的车库里发现这些裙子，他才告诉她收集裙子的事。
Now the couple is selling the dresses for a bargain, with the hopes of using the money from the sale towards fulfilling a lifelong dream of dancing together at the New Year’s Eve Ball in Vienna.现在，这对老夫妇正以优惠价格出售这些裙子，希望用卖裙子所得的钱在新年之夜到维也纳共舞，这是他们毕生的梦想。 |
