　　2008年夏天,中国举办了北京奥运会。从8月份开始,成千上万的顶尖运动员和数以百万计的奥运迷就涌入北京。为了准备奥运会,北京规划了很多新建筑, 包括体育场馆、为奥运迷们准备的宾馆,还有供运动员和教练居住的奥运村。在这些新建筑中,有一些和世界上其他建筑相比是独树一帜的,比如国家体育场“鸟巢”(the"Bird's Nest"）。尽管这座体育场是由钢筋混凝土(steel and concrete)建成的,但它看起来就像一个由树枝筑成的巨大鸟巢。

　　1.2008年夏天,中国举办了北京奥运会:“举办”可译为hold或host,host有“东道主”的意思,还可意为“男主人”,“女主人”则为hostess。
　　2.从8月份开始,成千上万的顶尖运动员和数以百万计的奥运迷就涌入北京: 数词“成千上万”和“数以百万计”分别可翻译为thousands of和millions of,注意thousand和million都要用复数。“涌入”可译为pour into,pour oneself into 意为“投身于……”。
　　3.在这些新建筑中,有一些和世界上其他建筑相比是独树一帜的:“独树一帜的”可用形容词unique来表示。“和...相比”译为compared with。
