This is AP News Minute.
Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world gathered at the Vatican ahead
of the historic canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII. The
current pontiff, Pope Francis, will declare them both saints in a service on
Sunday.
An explosion leveled a home and damaged several others in a suburban
Chicago neighborhood with debris found as far as half a mile away. Authorities
are investigating the cause of the explosion.
South Korean authorities detained another 4 crew members from the ferry
that sank and left more than 300 people dead or missing. All 15 of those
involved in navigating the vessel are now in custody.
President Barack Obama began the first visit to Malaysia by a U.S.
President in nearly half a century. The President attended a 600-person state
dinner at the Malaysian King's National Palace. Malaysia is the 3rd leg of
President Obama's Asia trip which is focused on rebalancing Asia policy.
