        　　蓝宝石的矿物名称也叫刚玉，它是六方晶体，硬度9，比重3.97至4.08，折光率1.76至1.77,透明、半透明或不透明。它是氧化铝钛的结晶体，因含铁离子与钛离子而呈蓝色，按其颜色深浅浓艳的程度不同分为很多种，其中以洋蓝色为最好。最大的蓝宝石原石产于斯里兰卡。
