The Chinese traditional custom of treating guests requires the dishes to be plentiful, which are not possible to be finished by the guests. The typical menu of Chinese dinner includes a set of cold dishes as the starter and the following hot dishes, such as meat, chicken and duck, vegetables, etc. In most cases, the whole fish dish is considered to be a necessity except that seafood has been served.
Nowadays, the combination of western food and Chinese traditional food is very popular among Chinese people, therefore it is not rare that stake is served at the dinner and salad is also becoming more and more popular in spite of the fact that uncooked food is not preferred in China traditionally.
A soup, which can be served at the beginning or the end of the dinner, at least is needed. Normally the serving of dessert and fruits marks the end of the entire dinner.
