Each year, as summer ends, I’m asked the same question by almost everywoman I meet: ‘What do I buy for the new season?’ They’re asking me because, as
Editor-in-Chief of Elle, I have a fashion superpower: I can tell you months in
advance exactly what will be hanging on shop rails.

And this is the season of the no-trend trend, packed with classically chic
pieces. Nobody can say what the reason is — fashion is too unpredictable to pin
the rebirth of casual cool on any one thing. But don’t let the ‘why’ worry you —
it’s the ‘what’ you need to know. So let me help you create the ultimate
shopping list before you splash your hard-earned cash on all of those exciting
new buys.

These will be in every shop. The good news is that prices of faux fur have
dropped and quality has improved. This is your most trend-led piece of the
season. There are many brightly coloured versions but to really hit the fashion
spot you should go for grey or camel.

Believe me, when I tell you every woman can wear a jumpsuit. This season
they come in great styles in black and greys. The jumpsuit has been around for a
while now, but the latest crop have a smarter, less slouchy edge and are
probably the most comfortable thing to wear every day. Pair with a low kitten
heel or a silver flat.

You really need to step away from the dress this season. But if you do have
to have a dress in this season of separates, go for a more relaxed one with a
longer-length skirt.

THE SKIRT& SEXY FLATS

The new length is midway between knee and ankle and is worn with a flat
shoe, leather trainer or knee-high boot. They look good in grey wool, black or
navy with a chunky knit.
最近的流行长度实在膝盖和脚踝之间，搭配一双平底鞋、小皮鞋、或者及膝靴。灰色、黑色或者深蓝都很不错，上衣可以搭配针织衫。

This is the shoe you must buy now. You could get a ‘safe’ ballet pump but
this won’t be as on-trend as opting for a soft, pale brogue in off-white or a
light brown.
