高端消费者 well-heeled shopper

在上面的报道中，well-heeled shopper就是我们所说的“高端消费者”，well-heeled是well provided with plenty of money，即“富有的、有钱的”，在上面的报道中，跟luxury和high-end所表达的意思相近，都是“高端的、奢华的”意思。
well-heeled这个词是由美国人创造的。据说过去人们在斗鸡的时候，会给鸡身上绑上马刺(heel/spur)，参与战斗的鸡well-heeled才有可能获胜。后来，真正的武器逐渐演变为一种更强大的武器——钱，well-heeled也就变成了“有钱的”意思。比如：He is not so well-heeled as we expected. (他没有我们想的那么有钱。)
