Severance pay 指的是“解雇费、离职金”，也就是根据受雇时间长短，给达到离职标准的雇员的一笔钱。Severance有“断绝、隔绝”，“契约中止或合同到期”的意思，例如：severance benefit(退职福利金);severance wage(解雇时加发的工资)等等。
