报道中的“fetal gender testing”和“sex-selective abortion”分别指“胎儿性别鉴定”和“选择性堕胎”。
Fetal(胎儿的)由名词fetus(胎儿)而来。有别于infant(新生婴儿)，fetus指尚未出生的胎儿，由此，一般意义上的“弑婴”常用“infanticide(杀死新生婴儿)”来表达。
据悉，因重男轻女而造成的非法“选择性堕胎”行为，在印度、中国等亚洲国家比较严重。
