President Obama made an unannounced stop at a Gap store in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday to buy some clothes for his wife and daughters and make a pitch for increasing the minimum wage.这周二，美国总统奥巴马意外现身纽约曼哈顿中心的Gap商店，为妻女选购衣物，并借机呼吁商家增加员工最低工资。

Obama decided to shop at the Gap to spotlight the company's new policy of paying entry level employees more than the minimum wage.奥巴马之所以选择Gap商店购物，是为了让民众注意该公司最近出台的一项新政策——提高员工的最低薪资。

He pointed out that the minimum wage is not just going to teenagers; the average age of a minimum-wage earner is 35. Obama has asked Congress to approve an increase in the national minimum wage to $10.10 an hour from $7.25, but Republicans are reluctant to go along.奥巴马指出，不只是年轻人在领最低工资，领最低工资的人群的平均年龄是35岁。奥巴马已经要求国会立法，将最低工资从每小时7.25美元（约合人民币44.59元）增加到10.10美元（约合人民币61.12元），但遭到共和党反对。
