In the past the women have boiled the water. Heating the water to a high temperature kills the bacteria and protozoa. The water is then safe to drink. But it takes a lot of fuel to boil enough water for a whole family. Rose spent most of her day collecting enough wood to boil the water. But now Rose uses solar purification. She uses the sun to clean the water. Rose says 'It is easy to do. I fill clear plastic bottles with water. Then I place the bottles on the top of my black-painted house on the roof. The water bottles stay there in the hot sun for a whole day'.过去女人都会把水煮沸，将水加热到一定温度可以杀死细菌和原生动物，然后水便是安全可饮用的了，但为全家人烧好足够多的水却需要用掉很多燃料。罗斯花费绝大部分时间用于找到足够多的木头来烧水，但现在罗斯使用太阳能净化，她用太阳洁净水。罗斯说，这很容易做到，我在塑料瓶里装满水，然后把瓶子放到黑色房子的屋顶上，那些水瓶待上一整天接受骄阳的照射。
