In the southern England county of West Sussex, wannabe bloodsuckers have converged with a vengeance. These children of the night are hoping to make their way into the Guinness book of world records.
As Halloween approaches, the Brits are hoping to set a spooky new world record.
The ’most vampires together in one place’ has been achieved by King’s Dominion, an amusement park in the US state of Virginia, which gathered 1,039 vampires on September 30, 2011.
The bid to beat that record is taking place here at Tulleys Farm, the United Kingdom’s biggest Halloween themed attraction. Appropriately, the event starts at twilight and, as with most records, strict rules apply.
For the rules, males have to have a black cape, black trousers, a white shirt, a waistcoat, a neck frill or neck tie, black shoes and vampire teeth. And for the females you have to have a black and red coloured dress, dark eye makeup, red lips, vampire teeth and black shoes.
The gathering attracts a mixture of participants, some who are clearly Vampire enthusiasts and movie fans, while others just want to be part of a world record attempt.
"I love gothic jewellery and clothing, so I thought this is a perfect time to show it all off. I love Gothic music as well, and films like ’Underworld’, things like that, so it’s pretty awesome that they decided to make this attempt.," said one participant.
"It would be awesome, it’s something to tell my kids in the future, I was a vampire and I beat a world record kind of thing, that would be quite funny to tell them, they’d be like no mum - go away!" said another paiticipant.
Only those meeting the strict criteria laid down by the Guinness World Records are counted, and many of the visitors are quickly eliminated.
Despite the abundant enthusiasm of the participants here, the current holders of the record had nothing to fear from this particular challenge. The count verifies that just over 500 vampires meet the criteria tonight, so it’s not even close.
But all is not completely in vain -- the event does set a new UK record for the biggest gathering of vampires.

英国南部的西萨塞克斯郡装扮成吸血鬼的粉丝
位于英国南部的西萨塞克斯郡当地时间10月5号迎来了成百上千名装扮成吸血鬼的粉丝。这些“吸血鬼”不惜长途跋涉来到这里，只为挑战同一时间在同一地点聚集最多“吸血鬼”的吉尼斯世界纪录。这里是位于西萨塞克斯郡克劳利市郊区的图里斯农场，也是英国最大的万圣节主题乐园。尽管当天的活动按计划在黄昏时分才拉开序幕，但是有不少参与者早早就来到这里忙着进行准备活动。
本次活动的目的是，挑战美国弗吉尼亚州一座游乐园之前创下的1039名“吸血鬼”同时聚会的吉尼斯世界纪录。前来参与活动的志愿者人数不少，不过这项挑战活动对参与者的着装有着十分严格的标准，不达标者都不会被计算在内。因活动举办地十分偏远，参与者只能通过公交或自驾的方式来到这里。因此即便是如此的大费周折，最后还是没能达到活动的目的。最终，活动现场着装符合标准的“吸血鬼”只有500多名，与世界纪录相差深远。据了解，这已经不是西萨塞克斯郡第一次挑战类似的世界纪录了。2012年10月，超过两千名志愿者打扮成“僵尸”的模样云集在图里斯农场。不过遗憾的是，他们同样没能超越此前由美国人创造的世界纪录。
