        前段时间，两国网友甚至在推特上掀起骂战，嘲笑对方的英语不够正宗。

        英美“u”之分歧怎么来的
        In the early 18th century, English spelling was not standardized. Differences became noticeable after the publishing of influential dictionaries.18世纪早期，英语的拼写方式没有统一的标准。拼写方面的差异变得明显是在两本极有影响力的字典出版之后。
        Today's British English spellings mostly follow Johnson's A Dictionary of the English Language 1755, while many American English spellings follow Webster's An American Dictionary of the English Language.今天英式英语的拼写方法大多是沿用1755年约翰逊编纂的《英语词典》，美式英语的拼写则沿用了韦伯斯特编写的《美国英语词典》。
        Webster's 1828 dictionary had only -or and is given much of the credit for the adoption of this form in the United States.1828年的《美国英语词典》用的都是-or结尾的拼写，美国人民会采用这种拼法，多半归功于这本词典。
        By contrast, Johnson's 1755 dictionary used -our for all words still so spelled in Britain.相比之下，1755年的《英语词典》中，那些用-our来结尾的单词，则被英国人一直沿用至今。
        下面来总结一下英美拼写的差异：
        ❶ 英式英语中单词结尾是-re的，美语中通常写作-er。

        ❷英式英语中单词结尾是-our的，美语中通常写作-or。

        注：在-our的读音是[aʊə]的情况下，英美的拼写都是相同的，比如hour，flour。
        ❸英式英语中动词结尾是-ize/-ise的，美语中都拼成-ize。

        ❹英式英语中单词结尾是-yse的，美语中都拼成-yze。

        ❺英式英语中，动词以“元音+l”结尾的，在动词变形时，要双写l。在美式英语中，l不双写。

        ❻英式英语中，双元音拼写的ae或oe，在美式英语中只留一个e。

        注：在美式英语中，有些术语，如archaeology（考古学）仍然保留了ae的标准拼法，但archeology也是可以接受的。
        ❼ 英式英语中，某些名词结尾是-ence的，在美语中拼为-ense。

        总地来说，英式英语倾向于保留各种外来语融入英语时的原本拼写，而美式英语则会让单词的拼写和发音一致。
