Chronological means the arrangement is done according to the timeline, from the past to the present, and into the future. What is arranged chronologically? Why is the arrangement done?

Wolfe had been staring at the business card in his hand for quite a while. Of course that was not the only thing he had been doing. As a matter of fact, he had been busy putting his paperwork together. He complied and reorganized all the information he had on the case so far, identifying key locations and arranging events in chronological order. The saved the best for last – the memory card the model returned to him. He took every precaution he could to virus-scan the little chip before opening the files.
