Topic: Some people think music plays an important role in society. Others
think it is simply a form of entertainment. Discuss both sides of this argument
and give your opinion.

1. To think that music is simply a form of entertainment is reason enough
to enjoy the magic power of sound, even though the importance of music in
society may go beyond that.
光是承认音乐只是娱乐的一种形式，这就算已经是有充足的理由来证明声音的奇妙威力，何需再争论是佛音乐对于社会还有其他性质的重要性。
2. One thing is sure: there should be no argument about noise which is the
opposite of silence or sound.
千真万确：从来没有人争论噪音的问题，而噪音正是安静或音乐的相反。
3. In fact, after silence what comes nearest to express the inexpressible
is music for its magic qualities of truth and beauty.
事实上，如果想要表达那种表达不出来的事情，除了沉默之外，也只有音乐才最办得到，那是因为音乐具有真与美的特质。

1. Being embodied in truth, music is the language of truth, the universal
language. 内涵真理，所以音乐是带真理的语言，也是唯一的世界语言。
2. Regardless of what languages are spoken in any culture, music is an
essential part of social life, no matter modern or primitive.

3. It is easy to imagine that words can lie but music does not.

5. Besides, the truth of great music sticks to memory, penetrating the ear
with facility and parting the memory with difficulty.

6. Probably that is why a good song can outlive all sermons.

7. Interestingly enough, at its best the truth of music can prevail as a
higher revelation than wisdom since people do not need any brain to appreciate

8. In short, music is true to life. 简而言之，音乐是忠实于人生。

1. Music is beauty much as painting in the sense that musicians paint their
pictures on silence as does a master painter on canvas.

2. Because of its magic beauty, the sound of music is heart's delight, a

7. In the words of William Shakespeare: "If music be the food of love, play

1. Whatever the argument, it makes sense believing that truth is beauty and
beauty is truth, and that music is both. 何须争论道理，反正真就是美，美就是真，音乐则是又真又美。
2. People listen to music at different times for different reasons or for
no other obvious reason than considering it as simply a form of entertainment.
人人都听音乐，也许时候不同，或道理不同，或没有别的道理，只不过把音乐当做娱乐的一种形式而已。
3. It is therefore safe to conclude that what other reason can be more
practical to listen to music than saying that music is the best means people can
have of digesting time? 话说到此，最安全的结论应该是说，如果要解释为何人人听音乐，难道有比用音乐来消磨时间的理由更切实际呢? |
