But first Russian officials have dismissed a Dutch report and the first official account of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in July last year. All 298 people on board were killed, 196 of them Dutch. The Chairman of the Dutch Safety Board Tjibbe Joustra told reporters he believed that the missile which brought down flight MH17 was fired from an area controlled by Russian-backed rebels. Mr Joustra said the borders of the area were fluctuating at the time in July last year. But pro-Russian rebels were in charge. He also gave details of an investigation which concluded that the missile from a Russian-made Buk 6 anti-aircraft system exploded about a metre from the plane's cockpit. These people in Moscow are skeptical about the findings.
"I still don't understand. Was it shot from a Buk missile or Ukrainian aeroplane? It's nothing to do with our guys. Russia has already offered the Dutch side all of the proof and calculations, but no one is paying any attention." |
