气荒 gas shortage

　　进入11月份以来，中国部分地区出现大范围雨雪低温天气，天然气需求量大幅攀升。一些地区供需矛盾比较突出，武汉、重庆、西安、南京、杭州等地相继出现天然气供应紧张的情况。
        　　Energy analysts have blamed the country's "monopolistic natural gas market" for one of the most serious gas shortages in decades, made worse by high gas consumption amid freezing temperatures and snowstorms in the south.
        　　能源分析家们把这次几十年来罕见的严重“气荒”归咎为国内“天然气市场的垄断”。南方低温和暴风雪天气致使天然气消耗居高，从而使得此次“气荒”更加严重。
        　　在上面的报道中，gas shortage就是时下面临的“气荒”，也就是天然气供应不足。相似地，“油荒”则是oil shortage，“粮荒”是food shortage。Shortage是“不足，缺少”的意思，例如：ease the housing shortage(缓解房荒)。
        　　除了用shortage外，我们还可以用insufficiency，deficiency，scarcity来表示“不足，缺少”。例如：an insufficiency of funds(资金缺乏);During the war, children suffered from a deficiency of food.(战争期间孩子们遭受食物不足之苦);The scarcity of skilled workers is worrying the government.(熟练工人的缺乏困扰着政府)。Deficiency除了表示“不足，缺少”外，还可以表示“缺点，缺陷”，例如：Cosmetics do not always cover up the deficiencies of nature.(化妆品不能掩饰所有天生的缺陷。)
