背景介绍：
《最好的时代，最坏的时代》影像展近期在上海举行。其英文介绍中特别提到，展名出自狄更斯的小说《双城记》开篇头一句，“那是最好的时代，那是最坏的时代；那是智慧的时代，那是愚蠢的时代；那是信任的时代，那是怀疑的时代；那是光明的季节，那是黑暗的季节；那是希望的春天，那是绝望的冬天；我们面前应有尽有，我们面前一无所有；我们都将直奔天堂，我们都将直奔地狱……”。
介绍中还指出，18世纪欧洲启蒙运动中发展出来的人权思想，在美国和法国大革命中第一次得到政治表达。但是，尽管有良好的初衷，人权还是被压缩了，因为革命的核心既包含人类最好的思想和行为，也包含最坏的思想和行为。《双城记》呈现的世界，就是一个善恶交织、爱恨并置，智慧和愚蠢共存，光明和黑暗搏斗的世界。

In this tumultuous and complicated world, we should try our best to make the dark side of it fade fast, then we can bid farewell to the worst of times and salute the upcoming best of times which definitely will be promising and prosperous.
