普洛克路斯特斯（Procrustes）是希腊神话中臭名昭著的强盗。他开了一个黑店，任何人一旦落入他的魔掌，就会被他残酷杀害。他把人放在一张铁床上，如果身体比床长，他就砍去长出的部分。如果比床短，他就用力把身体拉长让人和床一样长，他用这种方法杀害了很多人。（怎么让沪江小编我想起《理发师陶德》）
成语“Procrustes' bed”的意思是任何试图使所有的人符合一个标准、一个思想或行为模式的做法。也可以说成是Procrustean bed 或the bed of Procrustes。
