        A: Our decrease in spending this year has been negligible. It’s almost the same as last year!
        B: Well boss, I will not give you any flimsy excuses. We did make only a slight improvement.
        A: At the beginning of the year, fire all non-essential staff. I want any idle staff out of here.
        B: Fine, Needless to say though, if orders go up after our staff are laid off, the paltry number of people left won’t be able to do all the work.
        A: 我们今年的开销还是没怎么减少，几乎跟去年一样！
        B: 老板，我不想用一些站不住的脚的理由搪塞你。我们的确只进步了那么一点点。
        A: 年初的时候，裁掉所有非骨干员工，我要让所有的闲散人员离开。
        B: 那好吧。但是毫无疑问，裁员后要是订单数量增加了，剩下的那么可怜巴巴的人手是做不了所有那些活的。
        【语言点精讲】
        negligible: 可以忽略不计的；无关紧要的；少得可怜的。
        flimsy: 没有价值的；微不足道的；肤浅的；站不住脚的。
        slight: 少量的；既不重要的；不足道的。
        non-essential: 非本质的；非必要的；不重要的。
        idle: 无意义的；无聊的；无用的。
        paltry: 无价值的；微不足道的；菲薄的。
