10月22日：The page was covered with a mass of figures.纸上写满了密密麻麻的数字。
1.mass：n. 团，堆，大量
例如：I've masses of work to do. （我有许许多多的工作要做。）
At his death he left a great mass of undigested manuscripts.（他去世时留下大量尚未整理的文稿。）
10月23日：Take your pick.自己选吧。
1.take one's pick：由某人自己挑选
例如：Which one do you prefer? Take your pick!（你要哪一个？自己挑吧！）
The green grocer told me to take my pick of the apples, so I chose the big, ripe ones.（食品店主人告诉我苹果可以挑选，所以我挑了几个又大又熟的。）
10月24日：The machine is not working properly.这台机器运行不正常。
1.properly：adv. 恰当地，循规蹈矩地，真正地，彻底地
例如：He has disposed of the rubbish properly. （他已经适当地处理了垃圾。）
We have got to the stage of keeping the rules and behaving properly to each other in daily life. （我们在日常生活中已经做到循规蹈矩，举止有仪。）
10月25日：Jane walked away, purposely avoiding his gaze.简走了，有意避开他的眼光。
1.gaze：n. 凝视，注视
例如：He turned his gaze to the new comer.（他把目光移到新来的人身上。）
He watched me with a calm, scientific gaze.（他用一种沉着的、严谨的眼光注视着我。）
10月26日：She decided to prove her parents wrong.她决心证明她父母都错了。
1.decide：v. 对…作出抉择；决定；选定

10月27日：He refused to discuss the matter.他拒绝讨论这件事。

10月28日：Its mouth is small in relation to its nose.它的嘴巴相对它的鼻子小很多。
1.in relation to：关于，涉及，与…相比
例如：I have a lot to say in relation to that affair.（关于那件事我有好多话要说。）
In relation to London, our town is very small.（和伦敦相比，我们这个城市小得很。）
