玩转口语第四讲：今天你hold住了吗？

        英语中，我们说“等一等，等一下”的时候，除了wait，还可以用hold on。Hold on在口语中更常见，请看例句：
        Hold on! Wait until I get my camera.停一下！等我拿相机来。
        打电话时，也可以用hold on，表示“别挂断”，请看例句：
        Can you hold on? I’ll see if he’s here.请等一下，我看看他在不在。
        同样，hold the line也可以表示“别挂断”，请看例句：
        Hold the line. I’ll hand you over to that section.请等一下，我为你转接到那个部门。
        Hold the line也可以表示“保持情况不变得更糟，保持不变，维持正常”，请看例句：
        The president said he would hold the line on taxes.总统说他不会提高税收。
        Hold your tongue是让某人停止说话，多用于祈使句，请看例句：

        Hold out经常出现在体育或工会新闻中，表示拒绝工作、拒绝妥协。体育运动员因为没有得到应有的酬劳而会hold out。工会成员会hold out直到拿到他们想要的协议。请看例句：
        The strikers hold out for better pay and conditions.罢工工人拒绝妥协，坚决要求加薪并改善工作条件。
        Can’t hold a candle to是一个流行的表达，表示“不能与……媲美”，请看例句：
        There’s no one in the business who can hold a candle to him.在这一行业里没人能比得上他。
