The Formula One reserve racing driver Maria De Villota has been found dead in a hotel room in Spain.
Exactly a year ago today the 33-year-old, who lost an eye and fractured her skull in a horrific accident at a test-run in England, appeared in front of the public for the first time since the crash, to speak about her recovery.
It was just after she had been appointed test driver for the Formula One team Marussia. She was one of very few women to come near to competing at the top level of Formula One. Her cause of death is not yet known but police are not treating it as suspicious.
