《基督复活》作为世界上最伟大的艺术品之一，他的命运却是多桀的，这幅壁画曾被不欣赏他的人粉刷掉，后被人修复后才得以重见人世。后在二战时，盟军曾轰炸其所在的圣塞波克罗市，但幸运的是当时盟军的指挥官记起他所读过的一本书中提到在此市中有世界上最伟大的艺术品，便立即命令停止轰炸，《基督复活》又逃过一劫。这或许是天意――基督，总会复活。

Piero may have been asked to recall the altarpiece. It would not be out of the ordinary. In Italy the tradition and the links between one generation and another were extremely important and I don't think he would have minded if he were asked to do this. It was something that he did of his own heart. He was very much indebted to his tradition and very interested in carrying it on.
With the altarpiece somewhere in his mind, Piero would have produced a full-scale drawing or cartoon of his design and then transferred this to the wall the first stage in the technique of fresco painting. Simone Vettori is an art restorer who was worked on frescoes by Piero. He's seen his meticulous working methods at very close quarters.
