They had two children before they separated in 1962. The same year, he married a Tahitian actress, Tarita. The two had met while filming the movie "Mutiny On the Bounty." Brando's marriage to Tarita lasted ten years. But his love of Tahiti never ended. In 1966, he bought a small island near Tahiti. Brando divided his time between his island and his home in California for the rest of his life.
