According to a survey conducted by FIFPro, the worldwide union for professional footballers, almost a quarter of the 1,000 players questioned in eastern and southern Europe said they were aware of match-fixing, and 10% of racism in their leagues. The findings are bound to be a real concern in Poland and Ukraine, who will cohost the European Championship in a few months' time. The BBC's Richard Conway has been studying the findings.
"What they've highlighted is that there are concerns of a match-fixing, there are concerns over racism, and the director of FIFPro has called it a 'massive wake-up call'. Because with the European Championships, they're just around the corner, again, this is something for the governing body to take seriously."
Borys Kolesnikov, the Ukrainian Vice Premier's been in London, and he is here to learn principally about the experience that London's had in preparing for the Olympic Games this summer. I put it to him on the question of racism that there are real concerns of player experience, and that he must be concerned as the European Championships are loom ahead of him. And here's what he had to say on that.
"I wouldn't say that in Ukraine, we have such a big problem, because for many years, we were parts of the huge country, the multinational country, the Soviet Union. So it wasn't a problem for many years. And we have 10,000 students from Africa and South America who studied in Ukraine.
