Saudi Arabia allows women to compete in Olympics
Saudi Arabia will allow female athletes to compete in the upcoming London Olympics. Saudi officials have said their Olympic Committee will "oversee participation of women athletes who can qualify".
The decision end fears that the entire Saudi team could be disqualified on grounds of gender discrimination. Show jumper Dalma Rushdi Malhas is considered the only female Saudi athlete ready to compete at London Olympics. Saudi officials say there may be a chance for others to compete. However, they would be dressed "to preserve their dignity," using a "sports hijab" with a scarf covering the hair but not the face.
