Theappreciation of beauty is part of human nature: we are touched by vivid
paintings,impressed by splendid sculptures, and sometimes we also judge aperson
by his/her appearance, whether consciouslyor unconsciously. Natural might
thisbe, such an action is unfortunately unwise.
The beauty of appearance does not necessarily mean inner beauty.There is no
denying that film stars are blessed with outstandingappearance. Nevertheless,
some of them havescandals, such as drunk driving or inappropriate low affairs.
On the other hand, an ugly-lookingperson like Yan Zi in “Chunqiu” period saved
the whole country with his wisdom.Therefore, if we mistake the beauty of
appearance as inner beauty, we mightunwiselytake the wrong as the good.
Whatis more, the beauty of appearance fadeswith time, while inner beauty
lastsforever.When we judge a person, we do not judge what he was born with,
butwe should value what quality he canachieve in the time to come.

对美丽的欣赏，是人类天性的一部分：我们会被生动的油画所感动、对壮观的雕塑印象深刻、有些时候我们也会有意无意地以貌取人。虽然以貌取人也再平常不过了。但不幸的是，这个行为是不明智的。
外表美不一定意味着内在美。毋庸置疑，电影明星们幸运地享有出众的外貌。然而，有些明星却绯闻不断，不如酒后驾驶或者是不正当的男女关系。另外一方面，有些相貌丑陋的人，比如春秋时期的晏子，却用自己的智慧拯救了整个国家。因此，如果我们错误地将外表美理解为内在美，我们或许会失去明智，好坏不分。
再者，外表美会随着时间而消逝。而内在美却天长地久。当我们评价一个人的时候，我们不应该用他与生俱来的东西去看待和评价他，而应该用他能在有生之年可以获得的品质去评价他。
总而言之，外貌是暂时的，品质才是永恒的。评价一个人的唯一的明智的方式，就是看他的内在美。
