China maintains family planning policy: officialA Chinese official has said the country's family planning policyshould be unswervingly adhered to.
The policy should be a long-term one and its primary goal is tokeep a low birthrate, said Wang Xia, minister in charge of theNational Population and Family Planning Commission, at anational conference on Monday.
The authorities will expand pre-pregnancy check services to reach all county-level areas across thecountry and ensure migrants' equal access to related public services this year, according to Wang.
At present, such services are available in about 60 percent of county-level areas, covering morethan 80 percent of the target population, according to the official.
Efforts should also be made to rectify the imbalance in gender ratio, she said.
Wang added that the birthrate in China was held at a low level in 2012.

王侠还表示，要下大力气解决好计划生育家庭群众的现实问题，解决好有特殊困难的计划生育家庭问题。坚持依法行政、文明执法，切实解决好群众反映突出的问题。针对大量农村青壮年进城务工的状况，要全面加强城市基层基础工作，建立健全工作体系，完善长效工作机制，落实人口计生服务管理措施。
